Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship is a two-year program with six fellowship positions each year. The fellowship trains child and adolescent psychiatrists to meet the needs of youth and families.

It is an exciting time in the field of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University. In the past several years, we have tripled our psychiatric faculty and are expanding the depth and breadth of services we offer. The division includes more than 450 therapists and 120 psychologists, as well as specifically trained nursing staff.

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship is a two-year program with six fellowship positions each year. Upon successful completion of the program, fellows will have met the training requirements for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

We are a traditional academic institution, as well as an organization that is committed to providing services directly to the community surrounding us. Drawing from our 37 nearby counties and neighboring states, with 20,000 outpatient psychiatry visits annually, a bustling emergency program with 5,000 visits a year, and a new 16-bed inpatient unit and 10-bed crisis unit, our fellows see a diverse set of patients and families.

The Division of Behavioral Health at Nationwide Children’s Hospital is the largest of its kind at a pediatric institution in the United States. The Ohio State University is one of the oldest Child and Adolescent divisions in the country. With long-standing tradition combined with exciting growth, this is a program that trains child and adolescent psychiatrists to meet the needs of youth and families.

The Ohio State University and Nationwide Children’s Hospital child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship program has the ultimate goal of training well-rounded clinical psychiatrists. Graduates from our program are child and adolescent psychiatrists who:

  • Understand the nuances of practicing in a variety of clinical settings, from inpatient to community-based clinics;
  • Are prepared to provide treatment to a diverse population of stigmatized and underserved patients and their families;
  • Are competent to provide patient- and family-centered care in both the general and more specialized areas of child and adolescent psychiatry, including medically complex presentations at our children’s hospital;
  • Value evidenced-based practice and are exposed to the most up-to-date treatments in our field;
  • Utilize quality improvement measures and conduct research to improve patient outcomes;
  • Live healthy and balanced lives in order to provide the best patient care.
